Lucky Signs is a woman-owned and operated small business crafting custom, hand-painted signs in Richmond, Virginia.

Here I am in the studio sporting my favorite workwear: overalls by Handy Ma’am Goods, a woman owned company located right here in Richmond, VA. Also, allow me to introduce my 14 year old dog Junie, who always keeps morale high in the studio.

Hi there! I’m Sarah, the lady behind the brush.

My passion for letters began in 2014, shortly after I graduated from art school while working in a local restaurant. I took it upon myself to maintain the restaurant’s daily chalkboard and soon became obsessed with this ubiquitous form of communication: Signs! I particularly loved the challenge of creating sidewalk signs, with their intent to compel an audience of would-be passers-by. Hooked on the power of everyday signage, I began to deeply explore lettering as a trade as well as an art-form.

In February of 2017, I leapt into full-time sign painting, and named my new business Lucky Signs, as I felt fortunate to be doing work that I was truly passionate about.

Since then, I’ve had the privilege of working with all kinds of businesses and people, including branding agencies like Campfire & Co, co-working spaces like Gather, popular restaurants like Richmond’s Pizza Bones, and cafes like Sugar & Twine.

As Lucky Signs continues to grow, I will always consider myself a lifelong student of the sign painting trade. My toolbox of tricks continues to expand, which means that Lucky Signs is always offering a better service today than yesterday.
